In a satellite communication system, a method of unobtrusively intercepting a communication call includes establishing a first connection (132) to originate from a first satellite subscriber (101) (SU) and terminate at a first node (161) at a first transcoder (160), establishing a second connection (134) to originate from a second node (172) at a second transcoder (170) and terminate at a second SU (101), switching the first connection (132) to originate from the first SU (101) and terminate at a third node (171) at the second transcoder (170), passing a first information carried by the first connection (132) at the third node (171) to the second connection (134) at the second node (172). The first information without substantial delay or processing is transmitted by the second connection (134) to be received by the second SU (110). The first information may be decoded in a decoder portion of the second transcoder (170) to produce a first decoded information (142). The first decoded information (142), accordingly, may unobtrusively be monitored.
