PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect a change on the controller side when a change of a function of equipment on the target side occurs. SOLUTION: At a step S1, a control part 13 inside a tuner 2 reads subunit identifier descriptor of a DVCR 3 by way of an IEEE 1394 bus 4 and proceeds to a step S2. At the step S2, the control part 13 decides whether the DVCR 3 is a new type AV equipment or not. When the DVCR 3 is judged to be an old type AV equipment, processing is finished. When the DVCR 3 is judged to be a new type equipment, a step S3 is proceeded to and the control part 13 transmits a notify command to the DVCR 3. At a step S4, the control part 13 receives an INTERIM response of reception confirmation returned from the DVCR 3. At a step S5, the control part 13 judges whether or not a changed response for indicating that a change of a function occurs is received. When it is judged that the changed response is not received, the step S5 is returned to; when it is judged the CHANGED response is received, the step S1 is returned to and the following processing is repeated.
