A water vapor-permeable, protective sheet material with a porous textile base and adsorbents adhering to a nonporous barrier layer, which is applied to the base as a dispersion of a water vapor-permeable, masked isocyanate which is crosslinked with a diamine. Independent claims are also included for: (a) A process for the production of this protective material by coating the porous textile base with a dispersion of water vapor-permeable, masked isocyanate prepolymer, drying the coating without crosslinking, covering the sticky coating obtained with adsorbent, crosslinking the coating at 160-180 deg C while pressing in the adsorbent and optionally covering the adsorbent with a light layer of textile which adheres to the adsorbent with the aid of a hot-melt adhesive (discontinuously applied); (b) a similar process in which the adsorbent is added before the prepolymer coating is dried; (c) a similar process in which the wet coating is covered with adsorbent and then dried with simultaneous crosslinking.
