Polyacrylonitrile threads are treated at a temp. below their softening point in an acid dye bath, which, besides a cationic colourant, contains a cpd. which causes the fibres to start swelling or going into soln. after which the threads are submitted to a wet, heat treatment at >=98 degrees C pref. 98 to 100 degres C. The threads may be on bobbins or made up into articles of clothing before treatment. The cpds. causing swelling or soln. of the theads are pref. ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, or cycloaliphatic or aromatic mono or dinitriles partic. benzyloxypropionitrile. The treatment gives very uniform colour and a high degree of crimping.
|
