The circuit (30) has a regulating circuit (34) for producing upper and lower reference voltages for controlling an analogue-to-digital conversion of the analogue color signal. If the circuit receives a signal from the analog to digital converter (ADC) (32) indicating that the upper limit has been exceeded, it increases the upper reference voltage so that the ADC can convert the entire analogue signal into a digital color signal. An Independent claim is also included for a method for automatic gain regulation of an analogue color signal.
