Date May 11, 1995A process for producing alumina hydrates having a boehmite structure is provided. These alumina hydrates are dispersible in water. The boehmite or pseudoboehmite in colloids having a pH value of between 3 and 7 is present in a nanocrystalline form (<4 nm) whereby an exceptionally high translucence is imparted to the colloid.
