The insulating unit is of a bonded mineral wool, cut in strips from a board, with the fibers oriented on a line parallel to the longitudinal center axis where the board fibers are aligned at right angles to the larger board axis. After the mineral wool strips have been cut, they are tilted by 90 deg round the center axis into a component (1/1) to be bonded together where the fibers have a horizontal and vertical cover. The formed peaks (3) are bonded to a covering layer (5). The insulating unit has additional air passages which are interconnected in the major axes. The unit is resistant to pressures of 300-500 kN/m<2>, and has a shear strength of 200-450 kN/m<2>. The material has a thermal conductivity of 0.033-0.036 W/mK.
