The response source detection method involves using an electrical interrogation signal field (12) provided by a transceiver within the automobile passenger space, received by a response source (30) within the passenger space, to provide a response signal received by the transceiver. The electrical interrogation signal field is provided by the transceiver between at least one electrode (8,10) within the passenger space and the vehicle bodywork (4), or between two or more electrodes. The interrogation signal is provided by modulation of the electrical field.
