A process for the production of water dispersing coated flat articles comprises application of a water based coating composition by means of a roller. A process for the production of water dispersing coated, flat molded articles (I) made of thermoplastic materials comprises extrusion, cooling of the article, application and drying of a coating material (II) onto the article. The coating material (II) is water based and is applied to at least one side of the article (I) immediately after preparation by means of a roller, preferably rotating in the opposite direction to the direction of travel of (I). An Independent claim is included for the coated molded article (I).
