An internally toothed wheel 14 comprises a hollow rim 17 on the inner surface 18 of which is placed a length of flexible toothed belting 21 (e.g. of sound-damping material reinforced with wire or synthetic material to prevent changes in length). The length of belt 21 is a tight fit in the rim 17 in which it is held either by cementing or by friction. In the latter case the wheel may be used as a slip coupling, and the friction adjusted by moving a nut 26 secured on to the rim to adjust the axial compression between shoulders 20 and 27. The wheel rim 17 and a co-operating pinion 25 are preferably of aluminium and the belting 21 of rubber. |
