The jaw shaft has an outer tube (1) in which a spanning element for central gripping of bushes, pipes or other cylindrical components is situated. The outer pipe is constructed as a spanning element cage with rotationally symmetrical spanning element guides (6-8). One spanning element (2) has an elastic spanning member (13), which is movable in a radial direction. The outer pipe has an inner part (3) and contact surfaces (4) with an adjustable distance (A) to the spanning elements.
