The pre-reduction of the catalyst, which may contain oxides of groups IIIB, IVB and VB, enables an easier sulfuration of these oxides which are normally diifficult to sulfurize using conventional methods. A better dispersion of the sulfide phase is possible. Process for the sulfuration of supported catalysts containing at least one element from group IIB (including lanthanides and actinides), IVB, VB and VIB.The catalysts is prereduced by a reducing gas other than hydrogen before sulfuration. Independent claims are also included for the sulfide products obtained, and their preparation.
