1. The measuring head is designed for determining the refractive index profile in liquid-crystal layers. It consists of a rotary-slidable stage, which accommodates two prisms. The bases of the latter face each other to form a parallel flat gap, filled with the examined liquid crystal. The bases of the prisms are covered with light-transparent thin layers. Unique characteristics: The reflective index of the buffer layer (6), adhering directly to the base of each prism (2 and 3) is lower than the minimum value of the reflective index of the examined liquid crystal (5). An additional layer (7) is located between the buffer layer (6) and the liquid crystal (5). The properties of the additional layer allow it to order the molecules of the liquid crystal. |
