Graphical representation of energy spectrum, particularly applicable to study of environmental effects of noise emanating from factories, trains or airports

A physical quantity typically sound is detected by microphone and converted to digital values. A series of spectral analyses are made, sorted according to global energy and stored. The spectra are displayed in color or shades of gray on a matrix chart with frequencies shown as abscissa and global energies as ordinates.
