PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image quickly coping with a request from a client. SOLUTION: In a method for distributing a moving image from a server to pluralities of client terminals 1-3 connected to a network and storing the moving image to the server 1-2, the moving image data are divided into a head part and the remaining part and they are compressed at separate compression rates and the compressed data are stored. The head part is compressed at various compression rates and the remaining part is compressed at a same compression rate as the lowest compression rate of the head part and the resulting data are stored. In this case, a ratio of the head part to the remaining part is selected so that a reproduction time length of the head part is smaller than the sum of an expansion time and a re-compression time of the remaining part. On request of reproduction from the client terminals 1-3, the server 1-2 distributes moving image data of the head part and then distributes the remaining part to the client terminals after the remaining part is re-compressed at a designated compression rate till the reproduction of the head part is finished. |
