摘要 1,036,748. Packaging and orientating eggs; suction lifting heads. PAGE-DETROIT Inc. April 18, 1963 [May 1, 1962], No. 15340/63. Headings B8C, B8H and B8S. Apparatus for packing eggs comprises a reservoir for temporarily storing the eggs and a device for translating a plurality of eggs simultaneously from the reservoir directly to a container, the eggs being orientated in a substantially point-down disposition by means operative during the translating. Eggs 10 are fed on to the reservoir which consists of a platform 28 above which move rolling slats 26 or a conveyer 14 (Figs. 3, 13, 14, not shown) and which carry the eggs between separator plates 40, Fig. 1, to align them. They are then acted upon by a translation device which may consist of two rows of flexible rubber suction grippers 75, Fig. 12, which pick up a row of eggs and transfer them firstly to an endaligning mechanism 50 and thence to an egg carton 41. Alternatively, since when the eggs are picked up they automatically pivot and arrange themselves in generally point-down disposition due to the centre of gravity being nearer their pointed end, the translation device may transfer the eggs directly to the container. In other embodiments four rows of grippers are provided to transfer two rows of eggs from the separator plates 40 and the grippers may also be as shown in Fig. 15B. Another translation device is shown in Fig. 23 where each gripper consists of two plates 122, 124 and in this case, too, the eggs can arrange themselves in a substantially point-down disposition while being transferred. The transfer device may also be constructed as shown in Figs. 1, 6 with a series of paddle wheels 42 mounted on a shaft 48. An egg is delivered to each paddle wheel and in so doing raises a feeler, Fig. 11 (not shown). When all the feelers are raised the paddle wheel drive is actuated to rotate the wheels through 90 degrees to deliver the eggs to an end aligning mechanism. One form of end aligning mechanism 50 comprises a series of rotatable bars 140 and non-rotating bars 142 with ramps 154 thereon, Fig. 8, on to each pair of which an egg is delivered from the translation device. The bars 140 are then rotated so that the eggs are aligned along their longitudinal axes and tend to move longitudinally towards one or other ramp according to which end is foremost. The eggs are then dropped by the moving apart of bars 140, 142 and fall between swingable shoots 150, Fig. 8, into the container, a fixed bar 148 tilting the egg according to which ramp 154 it was urged towards. The shoots may be fixed, Fig. 8A (not shown). A flap 162 helps prevent unwanted tilting. An alternative end aligner comprises two transverse bars, one of which 164 is rotatable and the other 166, along which are spaced ramps 172, is laterally slidable, so that the eggs can be dropped therebetween on to bars 168 and thence through swing plates 170 to the container. In a further arrangement, Fig. 14, rollers 140 align the eggs against transverse bars according to which way their pointed ends are directed to enable the suction grippers to engage adjacent their other ends. This arrangement may be duplicated for the device for translating two rows simultaneously, Fig. 17 (not shown). A manually operable portable suction pick-up device for a group of eggs is illustrated, Fig. 4 (not shown).
