1,118,642. Positive clutches. SOC. ANON. DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D'EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES (SAVIEM) 6 Jan., 1966 [6 Jan., 1965], No. 725/66. Heading F2C. A friction cone synchronized positive clutch is provided with an angular lost-motion connection between one of the cones and one of the coupled members to ensure engagement of balk surfaces when clutch engagement is initiated. In the arrangement shown for connecting a pinion 2 to a driving shaft 1 by a shift ring 5, a friction cone 9 is formed integral with the pinion 2 and the complementary cone 12 has a pin-and-slot connection 14, 15 with a hub member 3 of shaft 1 and may move axially thereon. The cone 12 carries a spring ring 17, and teeth 6, 11, 16 are provided on the sleeve and cones respectively. To engage the clutch ring 5 is moved to the right by a fork 7 into engagement with ring 17 to effect initial contact of cones 9, 12 and engagement of radial balk surfaces 18, 20 on the ring 5 and cone 12. When synchronism is attained ring 5 is slid over ring 17 and its teeth then lock into engagement with the cone teeth 11, 16. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the spring 17 is omitted and coil springs (23) housed in the hub 3 maintain the synchronizing cones 9, 12 in light engagement. |
