PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve rapid-discharge performance of a negative electrode and improve large-current discharge performance of a secondary battery, by causing a binding agent to contain a carboxy-denatured styrene-butadiene rubber derivative and causing a conductive agent to contain flaky or fibrous metallic powder. SOLUTION: A negative electrode includes a hydrogen storage alloy, a binding agent, and a conductive agent. The binding agent is caused to contain a carboxy-denatured styrene-butadiene rubber derivative. Preferably, the derivative has a butadiene polymerizing ratio of 30 to 50 wt.%. Preferably, the amount of the derivative mixed is within a range of 0.1 to 5 wt. parts with respect to 100 wt. parts of hydrogen storage alloy powder. The conductive agent includes flaky metallic powder or fibrous metallic powder or both of them. The metallic powder is formed of an alkali resistant metal such as nickel. Preferably, the flaky metallic powder has a mean diameter of 15 to 20 μm and a mean thickness of 1.0 to 1.1 μm. |
