PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increases brightness by widening a viewing angle, and preventing disclination. SOLUTION: A 1st and a 2nd opening parts 211 in the lateral and longitudinal directions are formed on the electrodes 11 of an uppers substrate 10. On the electrodes 21 of a lower substrate 20, a cross-shaped opening part 216 formed by the longitudinal 1st part and lateral 2nd part. The 1st- and 2nd opening parts on the upper substrate 10 form four squares. The 1st part of the opening on the lower substrate 20 penetrates through the center of the square area in the longitudinal direction, and the 2nd part penetrates through the center of the square area in the lateral direction, respectively. Therefore, sixteen square micro areas are formed in one pixel. The opening parts of the upper and lower substrate form a fringe field to align the in-between positioned liquid crystal to be aligned from the opening part of the lower substrate to the opening part of the upper substrate. The means major axis directions of the liquid crystal molecules in the two adjacent micro areas form an angle of 90 degrees looking at them from above of the substrate.
