PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of optimizing image reading speed and read picture quality. SOLUTION: Concerning facsimile equipment (image reader) for reading and correcting images through shading operation for storing white reference data in a line buffer (white reference data storage means) 53 while scanning a white reference plate 44 through original operating means 45-48 and image reading operation for performing various kinds of image processing by performing shading correction for correcting the shading of shading distortion caused by an optical system while scanning data through original scanning means 45-48 and providing the image data of an original 41 and providing image data shading corrected by a shading correction circuit (shading correcting means) 52, the timing or the number of times of shading operation is made variable and corresponding to this timing or the number of times of shading operation, the time or processing speed of total image reading operation is varied while including shading operation, image reading operation and other operation required for image formation or the like. |
