PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To serve efficiently information requested by users together with data of a high quantity within a range of a limited transmission rate of a communication channel. SOLUTION: A system realizing this method is provided with a few central computers 10 acting as information sources, many terminals 13 placed remotely to each other and each having a printer that prints out the data, and with an information delivery means 15 including a communication network and a broadcast network. The terminals 13 are provided with a storage means stores distributed information. Any central computer 10 adds index information to served information delivered from the central computer 10. Each terminal can retrieve the served information by using the index information reflecting contents of the information. The central computer 10 downloads automatically the served information and the index information at a time zone or the like when traffic of the channel 15 is small and the utility charge of the channel is less expensive, the user edits the down-loaded data by its operation and allows the printer to print out the edited data. |
