1,194,455. Mattresses. C. FRIANT. 10 June, 1968 [13 July, 1967], No. 27423/68. Heading A4M. A folding mattress comprises a plurality of panels 1-6 of cellular material connected in series by hinges 7-11 which are disposed alternately at upper and lower edges of the panels 1-6. One end panel 6 is thinner than the other panels 1-5 and forms a pillow when folded on to the adjacent panel. The opposite end panel 1 has a rigid panel 12 on its lower surface. The mattress may be folded to the position shown in Fig. 5 to form a sofa in which the rigid panel 12 is secured by clips or buttons to the thinner panel 6. Alternatively (Fig. 6) the mattress may be folded to a position in which layers 4, 5, 6 form a stack adjacent a stack of panels 3, 2, 1. One stack 4, 5, 6 defines a seat and the uppermost panel 12 of the other stack 3, 2, 1 forms a shelf. An alternative seat (Fig. 4) is formed by folding the panels 1-6 into a single stack with the rigid panel 12 lowermost. |
