PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably control power of a liquid crystal actuator by forming orientation films for uniformly orientating liquid crystals having dielectric anisotropy and viscous anisotropy oppositely on the liquid crystal filling part of a first operating part and the liquid crystal contact part of a second operating part of the liquid crystal actuator. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal actuator is formed by a power transmission mechanism, in which the gap between the liquid crystal contact part of a shaft (a second operating part) 1 and a bearing (a first operating part) 2 is filled with liquid crystals 3. The gap between the shaft 1 (for example outer diameter 5 mm) and the bearing 2 is set to be about 4μm. The contact faces at which the shaft 1 and the bearing 2 are brought into contact with the liquid crystal 3, namely on a liquid crystal contact part 1a (for example contact length 1 cm) a liquid crystal filling part 2a (for example depth 1 cm), orientation process is executed so as to horizontally orientate the liquid crystals 3, and the gap is filled with nematic liquid crystals by utilizing capillary phenomenon. When rotating speed R0 is given to the shaft 1 of the manufactured rotational power transmission mechanism from an external rotational drive device, the bearing 2 is rotated at rotating speed R1 different from R0 , and rotational power is transmitted.
