1,143,743. Modifying crimped yarns. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [4 June, 1966], No. 9473/66. Headings D1F and D1W. The crimp modulus of a continuous filament yarn is increased by passing the crimped yarn in a relaxed state between pressure applying means, for example a pair of rollers, so that the individual filaments are flattened in crossseotion with the greatest dimension of the cross-section at any point lying in the plane of the crimp at that point. The rollers may be heated. Latent crimp may be developed in the yarn by heating immediately in front of the rollers, while the filaments may be mechanically or electrostatically spread into a sheet before being processed. The yarn may have been false-twist crimped. |
