PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the pointing device which is small-sized and excellent in operability. SOLUTION: A pointing device by which a cursor or pointer on the display of a computer can be moved to an arbitrary position has an operation part which has a spherical contact surface fitted in a spherical bearing concave part and allows the contact surface to slide on the bearing concave part around the center of the spherical contact surface as a fulcrum by manually slanting a support shaft in an arbitrary direction and a tilt detection part which detects the direction and depth of the tilt of the operation part. Then the operation part has projections 12 formed from the fulcrum in the vertical direction of the support shaft and the projections 12 push a slider 4 up when the operation part tilts to expand and contract a coil spring 3a; when the tilting operation part is released, the slider and tilting operation part are put back to their original positions with the restoring force of the coil spring 3a.
