1,219,668. Continuous casting machines. SOC. CIVILE D'ETUDES DE CENTRIFUGATION. 4 July, 1968 [4 July, 1967], No. 31949/68. Addition to 1,121,838. Heading B3F. A method of making steel bars comprises introducing a jet of molten metal 20 into a mould 6 rotating about its vertical axis at a point which is eccentric in relation to the axis of rotation of the mould, simultaneously imparting a vertical reciprocating movement to the mould and withdrawing the cast bar from the mould while rotating the cast bar at the same speed as the mould. The mould 6 and its rotating mechanism 4 are mounted on three jacks 15, 16 (see Fig. 4) which are preferably hydraulic and driven simultaneously with equal amplitude to reciprocate the mould. The hydraulic jacks are driven by a pump 22 comprising three separate cylinders 24, each reciprocated by cams 26. The mould and its support pivot about a vertical axis at 5 to allow access to the withdrawal rolls at 3 and cooling apparatus at 2. The amplitude of reciprocation of the mould is 5 to 30 mm. and the downward speed is between 1 and 1À15 times the speed of withdrawal of the cast bars whilst the upward speed is 1 to 3 times the cast bar withdrawal speed.
|
