In the centrifugal air filter, the filter housing is heated to liquefy the particles so that they are removed from the filter element by gravity. The filter is used where raw material is transferred by air from a storage vessel to a plastics extruder or injection machine. The exhaust air is passed into the base of the filter at an air inlet (15), diverted around the conical base of the rotating filter element (23) and, after passing radially inwards through the filter surface, vented through the hollow drive shaft (18). The walls of the filter vessel are heated by elements (19,20,21) and the filter cloth itself could be a metal mesh functioning also as a heating element. The particles are melted and collected at the base of the vessel to which they gravitate, either from the filter element or the walls to which they are thrown by centrifugal action.
