The apparatus to manipulate a bobbin, and especially a flanged bobbin (1) at a bobbin winder (5), has a doffer trolley (10) with a lifting mechanism to raise and lower the bobbin for alignment with a bobbin spindle (6) at the winder. It allows the bobbin (1) to be pushed onto the spindle (6) and pulled off it. The bobbin (1) can be rolled on to the floor (9) or a conveyor belt. A guide (30) gives a low-friction movement for the doffer trolley (10), with or without a raised bobbin (1), on a direction parallel to the spindle (6) between a position where the bobbin is wound and a position where the bobbin is moved to and from the winder. The guide (30) is bonded to the winder (5), at least in the transport direction. The lifting mechanism supports the bobbin (1) at the flanges (2,3). The guide (30) brings the lifting mechanism into the zone of the bobbin flanges (2,3) at a full bobbin in the winding position. In the transport position, the full bobbin is released and the lifting system is pushed into the winding position. The guide (30) has straight guides (31-34) where fitted guide rods are extended out of the bobbin winder (5). The lifting system for each bobbin flange (2), or the wound bobbin, has a pair of swing levers at the doffer trolley (10) or similar low-friction supports. One grip end grips the bobbin flange at its circumference, and the other end is operated by a common lifting cylinder to raise and lower the bobbin (1). The grip ends of the levers are rollers, or similar low-friction supports, aligned on the direction of the bobbin spindle (6). The operating ends of the levers are within the bobbin winder (5), keyed through the guides (30) to swing their grip ends. The lifting levers and/or their grip ends, are coupled together by levers, cogwheels or similar gearings, for a synchronized movement. The doffer trolley (10) has a grip handle (35) for manual movement, linked to the projecting straight guides (31-34) from the bobbin winder (5) in a frame structure. The grip rod (35) has a circular arc section shape, with a larger diameter than the bobbin flanges (2,3), so that the rod (35) can be pushed axially over the bobbin (1) when it lies on the floor (9). The lifting system can lay a full bobbin on to a conveyor belt.
