<p>A seat belt buckle (100) operates with a pretensioner (330). The pretensioner has a frame with a first latch opening (126a) therein and opposing frame sides (108a, b). Each frame side includes a latch plate slot (110) arranged generally perpendicular to the direction of movement of a tongue into the buckle and a pivoted weight mechanism (112, 200, 220). The buckle has a latch plate (180) and portions (186) movable within slots in the latch plate. The latch plate moves between a latched position within the latch opening (126a) in the frame and within the latch (173) opening of the tongue to an unlatched position outside of the latch openings. During operation of the pretensioner a weight (200) pivots to exert a force on the latch plate tending to keep the latch plate in the first opening. A button (250) associated the frame has ramps (260) for lifting the latch plate to its unlatched position.</p> |
