This invention relates to a connecting device comprising first and second coupling members for connection to a towing and towed vehicle. The coupling members are lockingly engageable for connecting the vehicles in a towing relationship. A power supply conductor is provided for in use supplying powe r to rear lights of the towing vehicle. A pair of interengageable contacts are provided in the power supply conductor, one contact on each coupling member, the contacts engaging each other when the coupling members lockingly engage each other. A signal transmitter arrangement is provided for transmitting a control signal when power is supplied to a rear light provided on the towing vehicle. A signal receiver arrangement is provided for receiving the control signal and activating at least one rear light of the towed vehicle in accordance with the control signal.
