WATER-SOLUBLE CUTTING FLUID

A water-soluble cutting fluid which possesses excellent cooling capability and lubricity and does not adversely affect the environment. An aqueous solution comprising hydrogencarbonate ions, bromide ions, carbonate ions, and optionally fluoride ions and having a pH value regulated to 7.0 to 11.5 as such is used as the cutting fluid, or alternatively may be mixed with additives, such as a rust preventive, to prepare a water-soluble cutting fluid which may be used as an alternative to conventional cutting oils.
