A surface fitting for a drainage shaft has a cast iron frame (1) which sits on top of the plastic drainage shaft (7) and which has a flanged support (3) for the drainage grid. The outer flange (4) of the adapter are embedded in the roadway material to carry the weight of the traffic. The underside of the adapter has a grooved profile open to the bottom to locate over the top of the plastic shaft.
