Two rubber buffers (20) and a support screw (13) for height adjustment form the base of a stand for a painting. Two support pieces bear on the room wall and a guide tube (4) projects from the middle of the base and has holes (5) on the back for adjustment of the stand height. Preferably a connecting piece (6) is located in the guide tube, having a spring-loaded pin (7) at its lower end which enters one of the holes in the guide tube to fix it in place. At the rear of the connecting piece are holes similar to those in the guide tube.
