The device has a sensor (51) for determination of battery type, from one of a range of possible types, and a loading device (10,21,22) that applies a load according to type. A voltage determination device (10) is provided for measurement of the battery output voltage when it is under load and an analysis circuit (10) is provided for determination of the remaining battery power according to battery type and measured voltage. An Independent claim is made for a camera using the above battery testing device.
