An ignition circuit for release devices of passive passenger protection devices especially in cars has a first group of switching devices controllable from a control unit for triggering of the release devices. A second group of at least one switching device is located in series with the switching devices of the first group and the second group of switching devices is controlled independently of the first group by the control unit. The first and second group of switching devices are connected via separate signal lines to separate outputs of the control unit controlled independently of each other. The second group of switching devices is physically separated from the first group of switching devices.
