A device and a method for adjusting the spacing between adjacent spacer elements on an endless conveyor having a plurality of such spacer elements. The device comprises means for releasing a spacer element from the conveyor and means for manipulating the position of said spacer element relative to the conveyor during differential movement between the conveyor and said spacer element, thereby to adjust spacing of said spacer element relative to an adjacent spacer element on said conveyor.
