The ice hockey goaltender's stick is known to be comprised of wood or other composite materials approved by the National Hockey League Rules Committee. The widened portion of the goalkeeper's stick is known to be coated in fibreglass or other laminating materials to aid in the durability and decoration of the stick. Current trends in goaltending styles have resulted in the placement of the widened portion of the stick along the ice in a horizontal manner with increased frequency. In this invention, one or more impact absorbing materials are incorporated into and/or on the surface of the widened portion of the goal stick to absorb the amount of rebound that the puck demonstrates when contacting this area. The cushioning materials may extend from the top of the widened portion of the stick to the heel of the stick blade. The cushioning materials may occur on one or both sides of the widened area of the goaltender's stick.
|
