The needle selection mechanism for a knitter, and especially a circular knitter, has a number of selection flaps (3) with limit stops (8) on both sides of them to define the range of their swing movement. The limit stops (8) are of ceramic, or they have a ceramic cladding. Each selection flap (3) is wholly of ceramic material, apart from the integrated permanent magnet, and the limit stops (8) are wholly ceramic. The limit stops (8) and/or the selection flaps (3) are shaped where they face each other to give a linear or a local point lie between each flap (3) and its associated limit stop (8). The limit stops (8) are cylindrical pins inserted into sockets (10) at the housing side. The socket (10) width is narrower than the cylindrical limit stop pin (8) dia. so that the mantle surface of the pin extends outwards from the socket (10). Flat surfaces at the flaps (3) give the laying surfaces against the limit stop pins (8) on both sides.
