A cylindrically shaped case (20) is joined to a carrying element (24) at the rear of the vehicle (23) with two horizontal bars (25,26) and accommodated inside the bumper (22). The upper end (18) of the U-shaped two bar (12) adjacent to the car can be pushed into and locked inside the case (20) when the tow bar (12) is not used. All parts of the unit (10) are completely hidden behind the bumper (22). For use the tow bar (12) is moved down, swung into a working position, and locked.
