The setdown jaw (3) is held releasably by inserting a key (4) in a hold (5) whose taper in the closing direction is matched by a corresponding taper in the reverse direction (S). The hold (5) is allocated to the basic jaw (2) and the setdown jaw (3) alike and the key and hold faces are suitably axially inclined. An adapter fitted to the basic jaw (2) forms the hold whose undercut has side holes (10) forming a row of teeth (11), the key in this case designed in segment form to home axially into the holes (10). The undercut is made up of peripherally open grooves angled towards the setdown jaw (3). The keys locating into the undercut grooves are laterally guided in the chuck body (1). Two holds (5) can be provided, with opposing tapers.
