The invention relates to a data entry unit (1) for inputting data in a decentralized manner and for transmitting data to a central evaluation unit, especially for carrying out votes. The inventive unit comprises an input unit (10) for inputting data, a display unit (10) for graphic user prompting, a transmitting unit (15) for transmitting the input data to the evaluation unit, and a control unit (7, 11, 13) for controlling or querying the input unit (10), the display unit (10) or the transmitting unit (15). According to the invention, it is possible to carry out a bi-directional data transmission between the evaluation unit and the data entry unit (1) in order to transmit control data to the data entry unit (1). Said control data determines the operating performance of the data entry unit, and is comprised, for example, of program modules, graphic modules or of an individual identification for identifying the data entry unit (1).
