1,210,786. Hydrocarbon conversion using zeolites. MOBIL OIL CORP. 25 Feb., 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 10060/69. Heading C5E. [Also in Division C3] A hydrocarbon conversion process effected at below 700‹ F. is catalysed by a zeolite having an o-xylene selectivity factor (ratio of isomerization to disproportionation under controlled conditions) of at least 2À5. The zeolite may be type # or ZSM-4 the latter having the formula: wherein M is a cation and n its valence, J is A1 or Ga; Q is Si or Ge and z = 0 to 20. Conversion processes exemplified are isomerization, disproportionation, alkylation and polymerization. Examples describe the isomerization of o-xylene and n-pentane; the disproportionation of pentenes and o-xylene; the oligomerization of butenes and propenes; and the alkylation of benzene and naphthalene with n-dodecane and n-nonane respectively. Specific reactions also mentioned are the alkylation of butanes and the disproportionation of toluene to give benzene and xylene. |
