A roller thrust bearing having cylindrical rollers 10 has means on the upper and lower races 50 for reducing roller skidding against the races and for reducing operating noise. The means may be radially convex races 50 which contact the intermediate portions of the cylindrical rollers 10. The load carrying capacity of the bearing may adjust with extra load due to elastic deformation of the races 50. The races 50 may be of uniform thickness, or may of non-uniform thickness (fig 4) wherein the spring rate increases with an increase of elastic deformation under load. The races may be solid (fig 2). The bearing has a cage 20. Thus the rollers, whose radially outer ends travel faster than their radially inner ends, experience less skidding as they travel in the convex races than with normal races. |
