To screen molecules from molecule libraries, according to their bonding affinity with ≥ 1 ligand for the separate selection of high affinity species, the ligands are marked with a fluorescent colourant and mixed with the molecule library in a suspension. Surplus ligands, which are not bonded to the molecules, are washed out and removed, and the mixture is plated on to a two-dimensional substrate. The coated substrate is placed in a fluorescent microscope (5) for an optical register of the local fluorescent intensities on the substrate, for discrimination electronically using set selection criteria as threshold values. This gives the high bonding affinity between ligands and molecules, meeting the selection criteria, with their locations stored in an image memory. The locations are positioned by the image computer with co-ordinate control, to give a relative sliding movement between the substrate and a separator (20), so that the bonded molecules at each point can be detached (20) from the substrate for local separation. Also claimed is an apparatus with an electro-optical scanner as a charge coupled device (CCD) camera (12) or a laser scanner to register the fluorescent intensities at the bacteria suspension, working with an image computer for data processing and image data storage. A separator (20) is positioned above the sliding table (8) to transfer selected objects. The table (8) is positioned, under control, in relation to the separator (20). |
