PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a nickel/oxide composite film not contracting the volume and suitable for the fuel electrodes of solid electrolyte type fuel batteries by forming a film from the slurry of a composite powder containing the first phase of Ni or NiO and the second phase of an oxide such as ZrO2 or Y2 O3 , drying the formed film and subsequently calcining the dried film in a reducing atmosphere. SOLUTION: This method for producing a nickel/oxide composite film comprises forming the film of a composite powder comprising >=60 mol.% of the first phase comprising Ni and/or NiO and the remainder of the second phase comprising ZrO2 , Y2 O3 , CeO2 , Al2 O3 , TiO2 , etc., and having a particle size of about 0.1-60μm on a yttrium-stabilized zirconia solid electrolyte thin film by a slurry coating method, drying the formed composite film, and subsequently calcining the obtained film in a reducing atmosphere. The calcination is preferably carried out at 1,100-1,400 deg.C which is higher than the operation temperature of a fuel battery but lower than the melting point of Ni. Therein, the temperature is raised at a calcination speed of <=300 deg.C/hr to sufficiently reduce the NiO. Thereby, a fuel electrode not contracting its volume at a temperature for using the fuel electrode, inhibiting the coagulation of the Ni particles and having excellent battery characteristics and durability is obtained.
