PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the catalyst ability and service life of a heterogeneous catalyst by reducing oxidated from metals to metallic simple substances in a vapor phase using a vapor phase reducing agent under the conditions of constant temp. and pressure and constant gas concn. SOLUTION: A soln. contg. an oxidated form platinum group metal as a principal catalyst and other oxidated form metal such as Au, Cu, Mo, Cd or Mg as a co-catalyst is impregnated into a catalyst carrier such as aluminum oxide, silica gel, silica, activated carbon, silicon carbide, diatomaceous earth or pumice. The oxidated form metals are then reduced to metallic simple substances in a vapor phase using a vapor phase reducing agent under the conditions of constant temp. and pressure and constant gas concn. The catalytic ability and service life of the resultant heterogeneous catalyst can be improved and enhanced. |
