PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibacterial and antifungal activated carbon holding antibacterial and antifungal properties over a range before, during and after the use thereof and imparting antibacterial and antifungal properties to a fluid treated with the activated carbon and also having and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Fine particles of an antibacterial metal such as silver, copper or zinc and/or a compd. thereof dispersed in a fluid are allowed to flow in the pore and void gaps provided to the surface of an activated carbon along with the fluid to support an antibacterial and antifungal agent within the pore and void gaps. The fluid having the antibacterial metal such as a silver, copper or zinc and/or the compd. thereof dispersed therein is allowed to penetrate into the pore and void gaps scattered on the surface of an activated carbon to support fine particles of the antibacterial and antifungal metal and/or its compd. within the pore and void gaps.
