PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester fiber improved in dyeability and mechanical strength by fiber manufacturing of a copolymer made from terephthalic acid (alkyl ester), an alkylene glycol and 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber is obtained by the following process: a mixture of terephthalic acid or its alkyl ester (e.g. dimethyl terephthalate) and a 2-6C alkylene glycol selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, pentamethylene glycol and hexamethylene glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol) is incorporated with 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol at 1-15 mol (pref. 2-10 mol) based on the total amount of the 2-6C alkylene glycol and 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, and the resulting system is subjected to polymerization process by batch or continuous method to form a copolymer, which is then subjected to melt spinning followed by drawing process. |
