PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lusterless electrodeposition coating material which contains aq. microgels excellent in coating workability and gives an electrodeposition coating film excellent in lusterless appearance and to provide an electrodeposition coating method using the same. SOLUTION: This coating material contains a resin compsn. which is prepd. by neutralizing a mixture comprising (A) an acrylic resin prepd. by copolymerizing (a) anα,β-ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid monomer, (b) aβ-methyl-substd. glycidyl (meth)acrylate, and (c) otherα,β-ethylenically unsatd. monomers and (B) an amino resin with a base to give an aq. resin dispersion and thermally reacting the resin dispersion. The electrodeposition coating method uses the coating material.
