PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the wear of a side part weir plate by standing back inserts from the wearing surface of the side part weir plate. SOLUTION: In a metallic strip casting apparatus provided with one pair of side part weir plates 18 for forming a side part demarcating closure for casting pool engaged with the end surfaces of casting rolls, the inserts 31 made of the harder material than the material of the side part weir plate body are provided along the side edge 32 of the side part weir plate 18 engaged with the end surfaces of the casting rolls. The inserts 31 are stood back from the wear surface of the side part weir plate 18.
